Ongoing QLD Rental Law Reforms effective as of 1st May 2025

Ongoing rental law changes are now effective with the goal of improving fairness and transparency in the rental application process and helping to stabalise rents.

The key takeaways are:

  1. Entry Notices

Entry notice periods will be extended from 24 hours to 48 hours.

  2. Entry Frequency

New limits apply to the frequency of entry after a notice to end the tenancy has been issued.

  3. Rental Application Process

A new standardised rental application form will be created and must be used when a tenant is applying for a rental property.

  4. Requests for Changes

A new process will be introduced for how a tenant can request the attachment of fixtures or structural changes.

  5. Disclosing Benefits

Any financial benefits received by managing parties regarding rent payments must be disclosed.

  6. Protecting Privacy

New limits apply to the personal information that can be requested and collected by managing parties.

Don’t forget the minimum housing standards which were applicable for all new tenancies from 1st September 2023 will be applicable for ALL tenancies as at 1st September 2024.

It is essential to familiarise yourself with the requirements and take necessary measures to ensure compliance.
